Carl J. Hanig, MD

Dr. Hanig is a board-certified ophthalmologist and surgeon specializing in cataract and ophthalmic plastic surgeries. A New York native, he has been practicing comprehensive eye care to all ages in Syracuse for 23 years. He is a graduate, Summa Cum Laude, of Columbia University, and received his medical doctorate from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Having completed his residency in ophthalmology at SUNY Upstate Medical Center, and a fellowship in ophthalmic plastic surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital, he began practicing in Syracuse in 1985.

As a comprehensive ophthalmologist, Dr. Hanig evaluates and/or treats a variety of eye conditions, including eye disease, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye syndrome.

Dr. Hanig is currently performing surgery for cataracts, blepharoplasty, enucleations/eviscerations, skin cancer removal, tear duct correction (lacrimal system), and others. Numerous in-office procedures, including dry eye, blepharospasm, and YAG laser treatments are also performed. In addition, he is active as clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at SUNY Upstate Medical Center University, teaching residents surgical procedures.

Along with Syracuse Eye Physicians, LLP, Dr. Hanig continues to provide comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages.
